carbonmind's BlogOnline start-up Quarkbase mines sites - deep and fast.
By carbonmind on 09/03/2008 Here's an interesting start-up named Quarkbase which has just launched a free online tool to research and gather multiple information sources about a website or blog.
It is a mashup of over 30 data sources and algorithms gathering information from the Internet on various topics like contact information social popularity, ranking, traffic, career resources, associated people, among other things. The response or feedback, depending on the size and popularity of the site you enter, is fairly exhaustive, (see screengrab illustration to the left of the data behind TechnologyReview.com,) and should prove very useful to people needing to run competitive analyses quickly. Users get a snapshot of the requested site, (actually a few days older - today is Wednesday and my search for TechnologyReview.com data gave me last week's) links to related and similar sites, popularity measurements based on social web tracking, del.icio.us bookmarks, traffic from Alexa, etc., and mentions in other blogs and on Twitter. Tweets aren’t linked, the technical information isn’t as in-depth as that provided by some other online services, but it’s a very fast way to get a comprehensive view of any website, and can be used on blogs too. Quarkbase is found at www.quarkbase.com, the day they were launched the servers went down in response to overwhelming overdemand, but they are back up now. Here's the search I conducted: http://www.quarkbase.com/show /technologyreview.com |
